SYRIA
The “Syrian Salvation Government,” which is the administrative arm of the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group that controls most of Syria’s Idlib province, is now apparently issuing its own photo IDs. The group says this step was necessary because many of the estimated 4 million Syrians living under its control have either lost their Syrian government IDs or were never issued such documents in the first place, but it’s hard not to view it as part of an overall claim to being the legitimate governing authority in this part of Syria.
