At what point is Russia justified in directly attacking US assets and US military targets? I don't think it would be rational for them to do so but I think it's clear that under the rules of war they would be fully justified in doing so.
I’m not sure why you’d think the Russians care any more about “the rules of war” than anybody else. They’ll start attacking US targets if/when they decide it makes strategic sense to do so. They don’t have very much to gain by bringing the US further into this war so I assume they’d only go this direction if they decide they have nothing else to lose.
I'm not making this suggestion from the Russian side. I'm calling it out from the (incredibly stupid, irrelevant, and thing nobody cares about any more) moral and ethical perspective of whether the American military should be engaged in this war to the level it is. I have a M.A. in Peace & Justice Studies so I know exactly how few fucks everyone has to give about the morality of war.
