YEMEN

Yemeni government and rebel representatives met in the Jordanian capital Amman on Wednesday to discuss reopening roads that pass across the front lines of Yemen’s war, particularly in Taiz province. Opening those roads was part of the ceasefire agreement the two sides reached in early April, but that agreement is now just over a week from expiring and they still haven’t managed to implement this part of it. An agreement on reopening these roads might help motivate the two sides to extend the ceasefire, but it’s anybody’s guess at this point. On a related note, hundreds of people protested in the city of Taiz on Wednesday, calling for an end to the rebel siege they’ve been enduring since 2015.
