  • The New York Times is tracking global vaccine distribution.

MIDDLE EAST

SYRIA

Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad trundled off to the UAE on Friday, where he was scheduled to meet at least with Dubai ruler and UAE vice president/prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The visit is notable in that Assad hasn’t visited an Arab country (other than his own, I guess) since prior to the start of Syria’s civil war in 2011. The process of re-normalizing his government has gone quite slowly, but steps like this are part of that process.
