Your observation regarding ammunition is very important and pertinent. The recent US decision to provide cluster munitions must be obviously a direct result of the shortage manifestation we often hear about seemingly everywhere on the battlefield. It cannot be emphasized strongly enough how the rate of use of artillery by the Ukrainians (and Russians) has been astronomical. It simply takes time to manufacture a resupply of these calibers. Not even to mention the specialized barrels that have to be used to fire them. This hot war in Europe has got to be a huge wake up call for our Pentagon. By extension, the military's basic manufacturing configuration all across the country has come into question. And its ability, if any; to quickly increase production of critical munitions most in need on the battlefield.
