In today’s global news:

  • Worldometer is tracking COVID-19 cases and fatalities.

  • The New York Times is tracking global vaccine distribution.

MIDDLE EAST

SYRIA

The Syrian Democratic Forces militia says it’s fully back in control of the Hasakah prison whose inmates rioted (with an assist from Islamic State fighters on the outside) last week. There’s still no conclusive information on either casualties or escapees. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is reporting 181 killed since fighting began in and around the prison on Thursday—124 IS members, 50 SDF personnel, and seven civilians. But those figures should probably be considered tentative at best.
