Stories from Yemen, Kazakhstan, Honduras, and more
In today’s global news:
Worldometer is tracking COVID-19 cases and fatalities.
The New York Times is tracking global vaccine distribution.
There’s a bit more information regarding the Islamic State attack on a prison run by the Syrian Democratic Forces militia in the city of Hasakah on Thursday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is reporting that at least 18 Kurdish security personnel were killed in the raid along with at least 16 IS attackers. Both of those figures are unconfirmed. A Kurdish source is claiming that the SDF killed 23 IS fighters, though some of those may have been killed during the manhunt for escapees that followed the attack. Speaking of which, the SDF also says it’s rounded up 89 people in that manhunt but has not, to my knowledge, announced the total number of escapees.
