MIDDLE EAST

YEMEN

The Giants Brigades militia, a UAE-backed force that was apparently instrumental in driving Houthi/Ansar Allah rebels out of Shabwah province earlier this week, has advanced into neighboring Maʾrib province in support of the Yemeni government. The Saudi-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government, of which southern UAE-supported militias like this one are at least nominally a part, is trying to press the advantage it seems to have gained in Shabwah and push the rebels further back, and as Giants fighters are relatively fresh their participation could be a major boost to the coalition’s effectiveness.
