The United Nations Security Council voted Monday to extend a limited arms embargo on several leaders of Yemen’s Houthi/Ansar Allah rebel movement to the movement as a whole. The resolution was a UAE brainchild, and the Emiratis most likely secured Russian support for it by promising to abstain from any forthcoming UN votes regarding the Ukraine invasion. The wider embargo is unlikely to have any material effect on the conflict but it may make it slightly more difficult for the UN to act as an impartial mediator between the rebels and the pro-government coalition, not that the UN was having much success in that regard anyway.
