MIDDLE EAST

SYRIA

The Pentagon is claiming that the US military’s base at Tanf in southern Syria came under attack by multiple drones on Monday. Late Monday, another facility housing US personnel in eastern Syria’s Deir Ezzor province was apparently targeted by two rockets. There were no casualties reported in either incident. There’s been no claim of responsibility but it would be surprising if this attack weren’t carried out by the Syrian government and/or allied militias. For reasons that should be fairly obvious the Syrian government isn’t particularly thrilled that the US military continues to squat on Syrian territory at Tanf for no reason other than to be a nuisance to Iran.
