Since last Saturday’s brutal attacks in southern Israel by Hamas, Israel has incessantly bombarded Gaza (as of Friday, Israeli officials say they’ve dropped 6000 bombs) and is poised to launch a ground invasion with troops and heavy weaponry amassing on Gaza’s northern border. The Israeli military issued an overnight order on Friday for the evacuation of the entire northern half of the Gaza Strip, a region home to 1.1 million people. It was reported that Israeli authorities had given Gazans 24 hours for the evacuation to take place—which would functionally have been notice that the population of northern Gaza was about to be slaughtered—but Israeli officials later claimed they’d never imposed a deadline at all. At the time of writing the ground invasion has not yet begun but is expected to start within hours or, at most, days.
