Anti-war politics has a rich historical tradition, one that seems to be in desperate need of revival. New FX contributor Daniel Steinmetz-Jenkins begins a monthly series on this critical subject.
This is most welcome. I'm a veteran of the sixties and have really missed a sustained peace movement, although I do have to say that even that movement, as long as it lasted, eventually fell apart. I feel it did because it was not an anti-war movement as much as an anti-Vietnam War movement. The movement we need must include all war. And just to close, I would love to see a discussion that draws the connections between the two existential threats: war and ecosystem destruction.
Very excited about this new series! As someone who drifted from accepting 'just war' theorizing to pacifism (I arrived there courtesy the Iraq War), I am disheartened by the profound absence of any organized 21st century anti-war movement. And make no mistake: we must oppose ALL wars, not just the 'bad' ones started by 'bad' people.
I just wanted to express how very-excited I am about this series. Thank you very much for doing this, Dr. Jenkins. Looking forward to reading more of your other work as well.
The politicians got smart after Vietnam and stopped the military draft ,going with volunteers of lower income Americans and 'contractors' to defend Democracy. We need Middle Class boots on the ground to get more people involved in peace being there is no money in peace. I wonder what Reinhold Niebuhr would think of the safe haven for Kahanists today.

Loved this.
